Upon completion of your written and correctly formatted dissertation, and pre-approval for your defense from your chair, schedule your defense with your committee members. You will need to schedule three (3) hours for your defense that includes approximately 45 minutes of presentation followed by questions and answers and a committee meeting.
You can reserve the Rice Room for the defense by contacting Lori Farmer in the Law School's main administrative office. Dean Mai announces the dissertation defense.
You may present your dissertation in various formats. You may choose to give all committee members a hard copy of your completed dissertation. In addition, you may use handouts and/or a Power Point presentation. Upon request the room in which you defend may be equipped with all necessary technology; however, this is not required. Please inquire with your committee chairperson about the best options for your dissertation presentation and contact Law School IT for all technology requirements.
You must bring the SJD Oral Defense Form to your defense to be signed by your committee persons. Once signed you will turn this document in to the Registrar's Office.
